Objectives
Virtual Reality is concerned with the realistic computer modelling of tridimensional worlds and their interactions with humans and machines and is a logical development of computer simulation technology.
It is the aim of this project to investigate and develop Virtual Reality applications designed to improve safety in the underground mining industry with specific emphasis on explosion, fire prevention and management.
Main Results
General information: The system will be able to:
- rapidly build complex mining scenarios;
- simulate explosions and fires within the virtual worlds;
- reconstruct past mine fires/explosions;
- assist in the planning of explosion/fire prevention systems;
- test new techniques for explosion/fire prevention;
- test the safety procedures followed by personnel;
- train personnel in fire/explosion safety procedures.
