Objectives

INDICA project relies the design and realization of a forklift motion-based driving simulator. The simulator can reply on the driver the physiological feelings produced by the vehicle dynamic (acceleration, breaking, steering, etc.); the driver can control the simulator by using primary commands (steering wheel, pedals, leverages) obtaining the same physic sensations that he would perceive if he was driving a real forklift. Typical paper mill scenarios are digitally reproduced; they are showed in the front and the rear side of the driver by the means of a visualization system. This permits to simulate both the forward and rear driving of the vehicle. The simulator acts in the VE by the means of both dynamic and physical model that allow to confehere the forklift a realistic behaviour and to manipulate the items. The graphic environment is driven by the data obtained from the physical model that periodically updates the status of the simulated environment.
