Objectives

As a challenging test case, a Virtual Orchestra with four artificial musicians has been implemented by DIVA research group. In the current implementation the user interacts with the virtual musicians by showing the tempo with a baton, like real conductors do. The animated band obey the gestures of the conductor and at the same time the operator (another user) can change the viewpoint. The conductor and the audience hear the band playing in a virtual space (e.g., a concert hall) due to the real-time acoustic modelling and sound rendering. The first performance of Virtual Orchestra were in SIGGRAPH97
