Breaks in Presence (BIPs)

From EuroVR Knowledge Base

Description

There are two alternate gestalts: state V (virtual world) and state R (real world). Presence in the VE is defined as the extent to which interpretation V is favoured. Users are asked to report transitions from V to R (from R to V is not possible). A probabilistic model is constructed to model these transitions. This model is then used to estimate the equilibrium probability (p) of being present in the VE. An additional post-experimental question is needed to discriminate between participants who were in the presence state for more than half the time and less than half the time.
